Upperton Lib Dems call for improvements in our parks11.14.19am GMT Thu 16th Nov 2006
Upperton Liberal Democrat campaigners Rebecca Madell, Pat Rodohan and Alex Hough are calling for improvements to our local Parks and Gardens including Gildredge Park and Manor Gardens. Rebecca explained: "the Conservative-run Council recently sold the Towner Art Gallery which has been a key attraction in this part of Eastbourne for decades. Their aim was to raise £800k as a contribution to the new Cultural Hub." When the sale of the Towner raised far more than money than anticipated, the Lib Dems called for the Council to spend the surplus amount enhancing the parks and gardens in our area. Rebecca added: "Once seen as two of Eastbourne's treasures, Gildredge Park and Manor Gardens now stand neglected due to the Conservative Council's lack of funding. People in the area will miss the elegance of the Towner but with a political will at least the gardens could be restored to their former glory." Liberal Democrat Leader David Tutt is supporting this bid and will seek the backing of the whole Council at next Wednesday's Council meeting. David said: "with the right type of investment in such areas as the tennis courts and catering facilities this could also help to generate income for the Council".
